Ricasoli unveils the 2022 Gran Selezione

As the next harvest approaches in the rolling hills of Gaiole in Chianti, Ricasoli introduces the 2022 vintage of its four iconic Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wines: Castello di Brolio, Colledilà, Roncicone, and CeniPrimo. Four interpretations of Sangiovese. The first is the estate’s Vin de Château, the other three are single vineyard expressions, and all tell the deep identity of Chianti Classico.

The 2022 growing season was marked by extreme heat and prolonged drought, pushing even the most experienced producers to their limits. Yet at Ricasoli, adversity is met with innovation. Through meticulous canopy management, thoughtful pruning, and soil cultivation adapted to the estate’s complex geology, the vines were protected from excessive sun exposure and water stress. Then, in August, the turning point: well-timed, gentle rainfall brought renewed vitality to the vineyards, ensuring balanced phenolic ripeness just in time for harvest.
“The vines came back to life,” recalls Francesco Ricasoli, “and the fruit achieved perfect maturity. That rain was both healthy and a blessing.”
Harvest began on September 14 and concluded within ten days. In the cellar, a light touch guided the vinification: shorter macerations to preserve elegance and finer tannins, alongside the use of new oak barrels with deeper toast profiles to enhance complexity without overwhelming the varietal purity of Sangiovese.

The result? Wines of refined aromatic clarity, vibrant fruit, and silky, persistent structure—each one a portrait of its vineyard origin and of the Brolio territory.
Early critical acclaim confirms the pedigree of the vintage. Castello di Brolio 2022 was named among Wine Spectator’s Hot Wines, while Vinous describes it as “a seriously beautiful, elegant wine. Ample on the palate, with gorgeous freshness, the 2022 is also very complete. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, macerated cherry, liquorice and mocha are some of the many nuances that start to take shape with some coaxing. What a gorgeous wine this is.”

With the release of the 2022 Gran Selezione, Ricasoli reaffirms its vision: to craft wines that are both timeless and contemporary, deeply tied to the terroir of Brolio, and capable of evolving with grace in the cellar.
For collectors and connoisseurs alike, these are not just Chianti Classico wines—they are expressions of place, heritage, and the art of adaptation in an ever-changing climate, to discover in the best wine shops and on our e-commerce.
